Just so that I don’t run the risk of catching a cold by wearing my backless zippered dress, I pulled this flower cut blouse over my LBD and knotted it inward for a different take. Paired it with my platforms and accessorized simply with bejeweled earrings, bangles and a floral handbag.

The backless zippered dress was a gift from our family friend after she came back from a sourcing activity in Guangzhou. The cutout blouse, on the other hand, I purchased (on a special discount) from my 'suki' store (Tops and Totes). Accessorized with a chunky platform from Summersault, and a vintage Chinese handbag that I have in my stash. And oh, those are Forever 21 jewels on my ears =)

Jamiroquai, isdatchu?! Haha!
Other than the fact that this collection is inspired (I believe) by Jamiroquai (with reference to those rather bizarre hats), the clothes and styling are simply insane!! Virtual insanity, as Jamiroquai would put it, really! And by that I mean that the collection is a bizarre thrill of layers, peplum skirts over cropped pants, oversized knits and pins (safety pins to be exact), floral & baroque prints, and those very Parisian loafer-type shoes that Jacobs so cleverly put together with scrunched down socks. It's a collection meant not for the adventurous fashion faint-hearts!

Heeled up with a favorite HK thrift shop mustard booties and accessorized with a HipStop red & cream candy bag.

I don’t like wearing red tops. In fact, if you take a look inside my closet, you’d hardly find any reds in my sea of colorful choices. But given that this piece of red top (with a gold neckline detail) was on sale, I couldn’t resist purchasing it. And since it’s V-day, I went with the dress code this year and wore something this red. Paired it with gold details and animal-print heels to catch some attention, haha!

The red top, by the way, is from Bottomline. The black skinny from Jewels. Leopard heels from Janilyn. Gold shoulder bag/clutch from SM Ladies Accessories and Rayban aviators for eyewear.

The suit trend has been going strong for quite some time now. It has taken on a lot of different styling, from slouchy androgynous styles to the 70s-inspired looks; all in full-length. But as Spring 2012 approaches, runways were filled up with the same suit-up, but this time with shorter bottoms. Major fashion runways from New York, Paris, Milan & London have all been spotted with some short stops on their shows.

My personal preference would be for the sleek and tailored cuts on these short suits (particularly Carven's, Givenchy's and Zoe's), as I’m drawn more towards chic sophistication than to the casual cool & hipness of the looser ones. Although, it is not to say that the looser styles don’t look good. They just have a different appeal, of course, and I believe there are those of you who would lean towards that kind of style =) So wherever you feel comfortable, go in that direction, as they say.

Now whether or not we share the same style preference on this take, let’s just cut the length and go the short distance, shall we?

Models marched down the runway in beehived and veiled dos, piercings, and heavy eyeliners, with some holding cigarettes.....reminiscent of the late music icon, Amy Winehouse. The collection was bold: mostly silks, corsets, lace and undies; with a few selection of classic feminine pieces like the pencil or peplum skirts. And may I just ask, are veils the new hots (hats, I mean)? Well, whatever. Haha!

An elegant faux fur top together with a pair of dark denim short shorts and coupled with thigh-high boots can spell seduction. And a whole lot of trouble as well, don't you think? Haha!

The faux fur top was from a friend. She bought it in China for me during one of her bargain hunting sessions there =) The dark denim shorts (which actually have checkered patterns on it) is an old find inside my stash of clothes and which I believe was a freebie given to me by some friends of mine in the wholesale clothing industry. The near thigh-high boots (which looks so much like Promod's by the way) is an old Parisian favorite. The amulet type necklace I bought from somewhere in the Divisoria malls, while the bangles, I got from my friend's store - Tokyo Fashion. The mask, for props, is a street bargain find near downtown Manila.

The theme for Karl Lagerfield’s 2012 Pre-Fall collection for Chanel was aptly titled Bombay-meets-Paris, as the collections presented were indeed a reflection of classic Chanel (the tweeds, the French silhouettes) but mixed with elaborate Indian jewelry, ornaments, drapes & cuts.

This Pre-Fall collection of Chanel looks very expensive and more magical than what Karl Lagerfield usually does on a regular Chanel collection. Well, that’s just my own opinion of course =) How about you guys? What do you think?

Racism In The Wake Of The Sendong Tragedy

I know I've attributed this blog to fashion and the like, but I just had to blog this.

We all know about the tragedy that struck Cagayan de Oro and Iligan provinces last December 16-17;

Tropical storm Sendong came as swift as a thief in the night

And wiped out homes, villages, localities, and more sadly, lives.

Some thousands of bodies ended up dead in its aftermath;

With countless more still unaccounted for as of the date of this entry.

And while those who have luckily escaped death’s hold have their lives with them,

They have nothing more with them:

No homes to return to,

No belongings to own,

And mayhap,

No family members to give what little comfort there might be.

It’s such a painful time for the entire country,

Especially now that Christmas is so very near.

As such,

Donations have been pouring over from all across the nation,

And yes,

Even from abroad.

And while we all know that donations (as huge as they could get) won’t exactly help rebuild every victim’s lives,

It will sustain much, and give some level of comfort to the victims….

That they are not alone in their grief,

And that they are not alone in their rebuilding efforts.

So it came as a surprise when I’ve read a certain article in the blog news (I’m not going to mention the article though) and its subsequent viewer comments against a particular race;

Who these people believe aren’t doing much in the wake of the Sendong tragedy.

It’s sad hearing about such wordings / comments.

That even in the spirit of willingly giving to those in need,

There’s still those who make comparisons about which particular race / sect in the community that gave more.

And the negative vibes doesn’t just end there.

These people had the nerve to generalize the race as being opportunistic in a land that is not their own.

Very sad.

And as much as I would’ve loved to dish out my thoughts on these people,

No,

I’m not letting myself be like them,

And neither am I stooping down to a racist’s level.

In my opinion,

It’s not right to make racist comments and criticize a particular race for not giving or for giving less!

Who knows,

The race that they’re so mean to,

Have given way beyond what’s necessary, as they chose to do things silently, without any ostentatious display!

I mean,

Let it be.

If anyone wants to give or not, let them do so at their own will.

Now,

If you’re obliged to give more, then do so, but,

Don’t compare what you’ve given to those what others have willingly extended likewise!

It’s already a tough time for the country,

So any type of help, be it great or small, counts a lot already, don’t you think?

So stop those racist comments and way of thinking,

And try to bring about better vibes for our countrymen in need!

In coming up with his pre-fall 2012 collection, Jason Wu has this moodboard to show:

From there, he translated everything into a gorgeous collection. Here are just some of his creations sashaying down the runway (all pics from Fashionista.com) :

As you may have noticed, Wu was inspired by this modern artist named Charley Harper whose colorful wildlife illustrations are quite similar to Wu’s own signature owl. It was also inspired by the Maharajah’s (prince of India) wardrobe. As such, you saw much prints and hard-core hand-embroidery in Wu’s collection, as much as he incorporated the inspirations into luxurious sweaters, pointed-collared blouses and window-pane printed jackets.

Gloved

Made from cotton, wool, velvet, leather, silk, lace, acrylic, rubber and such others, gloves are now slowly making a comeback into the fashion scene!

It can be noted that gloves became popular during the 13^th century when women started wearing them as a fashion ornament, with lengths usually reaching up to their elbows. Queen Elizabeth I, was credited to be the first to introduce the wearing of elaborately embroidered or bejeweled gloves. And while gloves in the past were usually seen worn by women only on special / formal occasions, it has taken decades and years for these hand delights to evolve further into a basic staple in any woman’s wardrobe.

These days, generally, women’s gloves can be categorized into 3 different types:

- Matinee gloves, which are those that come up to one’s wrist.

- Elbow length gloves, which cover the arm up to the elbows.

- Opera gloves, which are full-length and go over the elbow to cover even the biceps.

The purpose and selection of these gloves, on the other hand, is more dependent on the occasion of its wearing. With that, it can be further differentiated into casual, semi-formal, evening (formal) purposes. Typically, the coarser or the thicker the gloves are, the more casual and non-formal they are, and vice versa. Furthermore, gloves, these days, may be fully-covered or fingerless. And when I say fingerless, it simply means that it doesn’t have any covering sheath for each finger. These gloves are generally used by bikers and punks, and when worn by women give her a rough / tough look. Now if you opt for a softer and a sexier feel, then laced gloves would be perfect for you.

There’s just so many looks you can generate with these different types of gloves, and I, for one, can attest to that as I’ve used a couple for my concept shoots. I know our weather’s a bit too hot & dry to allow us to wear gloves fashionably, but, if there’s a chance, why not? I mean, it’s always nice to be gloved, er, loved =)

Out Now In Preview Magazine (December 2011 issue)

So while there wasn't any mention of the creative stylist group involved, I'm still happy and proud to have been part of the production for this month's Preview Magazine article Terra Incognita, featuring the works of international creative genius Adam de Lumen!

We shot the models in the creations sometime in September 2011 (it was on the 22^nd if I’m not mistaken) at the Whitespace Hall in Pasong Tamo Ext. Makati. I was privileged enough to have been invited by my styling mentor, Millet Arzaga, to help/assist for the said shoot, along with 2 of my styling colleagues. And all I can say about the experience was that it was amazing! It was fun and exciting, but it was likewise physically-taxing and mentally-challenging work. But I love love loved every moment of it! The production group was very professional and everyone was relatively easy to work with. Even the great creative designer Adam was extremely pleasant. And mind you, he’s super talented. His clothes/creations are genius! Photos could only show so much; with the intricate details, feel and texture of the creations obviously visible only upfront and in person, but trust me, the clothes were brilliant! Adam’s simply brilliant!

Liar Liar Pants On Fire - How You Wear It - StyleBible / Mystyle

I’ve always loved pairing reds with blacks, and this is no exception. Took a Zara black long-sleeved top, scrunched up the sleeves and semi-tucked and untucked the blouse over a pair of red hot pants from People Are People. Hooked on a purplish pink feather earring to amp up the simplicity of the ensemble, but toned down the bold colors with a pale pink ribbonette heels from SoFab and a denim purse from Mango.

Hot This Autumn: Floppy Hats

The floppy hat or the wide-brimmed hat, were made famous in the 70s by glamour goddesses like Brigitte Bardot, Bianca Jagger and Jane Birkin. And although these hats are mainly used for sun protection in beaches and pools, it has since then become a hot accessory, and more so recently! Thanks to fashion runways and labels sporting the trend for their 2011 Autumn/Fall Collections, as well as 2012 Spring/Summer Collections, that’s why!

Floppy hats come in different sizes, colors, textures (as can be seen in the above pics) and may be used for either spring, summer or fall, depending on its material. You can choose a rich colored one (deep browns, grays or maroons) for this autumn/fall and one made with a sturdier material as it holds the shape better when you have it on. Of course, you can have the lighter or paler ones too, but do give your ensemble some additional warmth and depth by wearing something more colorful for your top. Don’t be too afraid to try other colors too, like plum, green, mustard, and the like. Also, do remember that floppy hats look better with it pulled down towards the eyes, rather than tilted far back on the head, as it creates an air of mystery and allure.

Accessorized with a colorful banig clutch (got it super cheap years back in Majayjay Laguna) and some rustic gold jewelry (from Tiendesitas).

I’m feeling a bit down today for no apparent reason. And even while I try to brighten up my mood with this bright green blazer, I still feel so blue =( Sigh. Have you ever felt that way too? It's a sucky feeling, right? Well, I sure hope to shake this depressive bug off soon...

The lace dress with fluff hemline is an old one from some local Hongkong shop that I went to years past. The green blazer above is from Muffin, the bejeweled heels from CMG, and that pewter clutch from a boutique in Shanghai China that I was able to score years ago, but still looks very much on-trend =)

You’ve seen one of my favorites at the Tokyo Fashion Week on Sunday's blog post. For today, I’ll share with you the 2 others that caught my attention. All pictures were from TokyoFashion.Com

At SHIROMA’s runway, you would find exceptional details. The collection featured creative cuts, drapings and layering which somehow have a futuristic appeal of the science fiction….what with the ambitious cutting, edging and detailing.

Shiroma - Spring / Summer 2012

On the other hand, at MOTONARI ONO’s runway, it’s Moulin Rouge….designer style! The show was mostly dark with spotlights giving the feel of a red light district. Models were made to wear sexy outfits with sheer and lace, garter belts, and corsets in black or red. Another trend alert was the double bun (odango) hairstyles of the models! It’s downright sassy and gorgeous!!!

So what do you guys think of these 2 designers? Pretty cool how they worked and tied their concept, don’t you think? I really enjoyed looking at and loved the subtle details of Shiroma's creations....they're quite extraordinary, out-of-this-world; much like what he really intended his collections should be. As for Motonari Ono, I loved the drama of his show! Really! But more so than that, I loved not just the double bun hairstyles of the models, but the sexy sexy creations as well! They evoke such air of mystery, sex appeal, and femme fatale strength!

Now overall, I think the Tokyo Fashion Week was pretty good, though most Japanese designers need to take more risks, particularly on their color choices and cuts, as they’re too safe, in my opinion. The neutrals, blacks, grays, and reds rocked the scene, but that’s just it for the majority. The cuts, too, were pretty much what we’ve already seen at international fashion shows past. So yeah, the Japs need to step it up. And that’s already considering that this blogger here is not even that edgy enough!

But here’s hoping to see more interesting looks from them soon! And I say soon, coz I’m definitely following their fashion takes from now on...particularly these 3 that I've favored here in my post =)

A Glimpse of Tokyo Fashion Week - Spring / Summer 2012 (Part 1)

I have to admit, I’m not exactly a follower of Japanese fashion, that is, until now.

I was browsing online and doing some research on my next post here in my blog, when I came across some interesting fashion runway pics. Only then did I started gorging my eyes on, yes, the Mercedes Benz Tokyo Fashion Week for Spring / Summer 2012! And gawd, was I ever wrong not to follow Japanese fashion! They’re fierce, baby!! In fact, I loved a lot of the collections presented that I’m thinking going Jap from now on, haha! Just kidding!

Seriously, 3 designers struck me the most at the Tokyo Fashion runways. And I’ve decided to blog about them here (in 2 special parts).

First for this part is Johan Ku. From what I was able to gather, he bagan his career as a graphic designer at the age of 17! He started his own design studio in 2005 and by 2007, had won Gen Art’s Design Vision of Avant Garde Award in New York! His “Re-Sculpture” collection was even used in a British academic textbook as an example alongside Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Rodarte.

For his Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show entitled The Two Faces, Johan showcased his ingenious knitting skills. The title of his show alludes to how his garments seem to look a shade different from another when hit by lights and not (that kinda glow in the dark material). Of course, the pictures weren’t able to capture those changing hues, but nevertheless, look below to see his gorgeous knit creations! All photos were taken from TokyoFashion.Com

Extremely a stunning collection, don’t you think? And do I need to mention, a highly cohesive and well-knitted (no pun intended here) concept as well?

Simply gorgeous, is all I can say. I never thought knits could look so fabulous, so chic, so edgy and stunning all at the same time! Ikaw na talaga, Johan Ku! I’m so following you from now on! Stalker mode: ON! Haha!

Paired a camel-colored leather skirt with a coral top, and the effect was like that of the rays of the setting sun. Added some touch of nude and black to neutralize and blend the colors in.

The clothes are from Caelen & Clyde, and those gorgeous heeled brogues are from Parisian (yes, SM does have quite a number of fabulous shoes nowadays, and at very affordable prices!). The beaded shoulder bag, on the other hand, was a find from a local Bugis Junction bazaar that I happened to chance by when I went to Singapore.

I found this lace overlay shorts while doing some sourcing work, and I just couldn’t pass it up! I mean, I just love its details, and I love how it makes the simple Pink Manila top looks so chic! Used my trusty platforms from Summersault to get me through the day and accessorized with a pair of jeweled oval earrings, bangles, some fancy rings (all from Forever 21) and this snakeskin bag from Charles & Keith.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2012

The 2012 show, which will air of November 29 on CBS, will have some of the biggest names in the modeling industry, including, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Karlie Kloss and Chanel Iman sauntering down the themed runway. For this year, the show will be broken into smaller segments “Super Angels”, “Passion”, “Angels Aquatic”, “I put a spell on you”, and “Club Pink”.

Maybe it’s because of the silver studs and accessories with the black altogether, or perhaps the pose even, but I seem to look like a sci-fi chick on a prowl, don’t you think?

The sequinned top is an old Mango find that I have here in my stash. The gray studded mini was also an old piece that I acquired from Virus. Paired the two items with black denier tights from Marks & Spencer (I'm a loyal when it comes to their legwear as their denier tights are extremely comfortable, will adjust to room temperature, and is highly resistant to scratches & tears!), and studded booties from a Hongkong thrift store. Accessorized with mostly silver, gray & black pieces such as the layered cross necklace from a local bazaar, and piles of bangles from Girl Shoppe. Capped off the look with eyewear from Marc Jacobs.

I love clothes that open just about enough and leave some room for the imagination. The Korean top I’m wearing comes with slashed sleeves and some nicely cut-open sections that look extremely sexy yet still appropriate. Works just as good as a tease, in my opinion =)

Paired it with an indigo-colored mini from Abercrombie & Fitch, some bone-colored booties from the CMG group and this pink gypsy bag that I got from my travels. And oh, who can ever forget their sunnies, right?

Seoul Fashion Week 2012

Even while I’ve been a follower of some fabulous and fashionable Korean artists for the longest time, this is the first time that I’m following Korea’s Seoul Fashion Week and writing about it here in my blog.

The parcels of Seoul Fashion Week that I was able to research showed me looks that concentrated more on saleable clothing (think business-oriented with a wee bit of twist). Kinda not what I was expecting, considering how fashionably edgy most Korean music artists are and wear for their music videos and performances. An Yoon Jung and Jaehwan Lee both gave classic, ladylike looks that reflects corporate chicness.

The cuts were quite safe, with just a little twist here and there, but I’m guessing the designers are being true to their own tastes and style preferences rather than simply following on trends. It’s a well-tailored collection, which I think would sell really well, as most Korean women (asI learned), aren’t too experimental with their looks. Korean men, as I’ve been told, are more risk-takers than their female counterparts.

But no worries for you edgy fashion Koreanoholics here reading my blog, cause I’m not yet done with this post. So while Seoul Fashion Week 2012 wasn’t too experimental in general, there were some designers and looks that caught my attention:

Lie Sang Bong - Seoul Fashion Week 2012

It’s not as edgy as I hoped to see, but nevertheless, the looks were more experimental. I particularly liked Lie Sang Bong’s collection (that’s why I posted a number of pics here)….the cuts and proportions were perfect and the colors, a deviation from the basic neutral tones that I saw from others. My fave from the bunch? The blue black cut-out dress! For me, it looks gorgeously edgy and high fashion! Certainly to-die-for! Haha!

Overall, I think there’s much room for improvement for Seoul when it comes to its fashion week. Their designers should take a bit more risk rather than simply going for what would fill their pockets more. Coz I really hope one day that it becomes one of the major fashion week capitals in the world. After all, I really do see a BIG potental for them in the international world of fashion. Don’t you? If you don’t see what I see, you should probably start looking more at their music artists & their music videos, and I’m guessing you’d change your mind after that =)

Took inspiration from Gucci’s A/W 2011 to come up with this 70s inspired sleuth look. Used a faux-fur top as a wrap over a basic black polo shirt and loose gray slacks. Grabbed a pair of platforms, a wide-brimmed hat, and a boxy handbag to complete the look.

The black with laced-collar shirt is an old Anne Klein, the pink blazer from Zara (Hongkong), the loose gray slacks from GII Black (Hongkong), the platforms (again!) from Summersault. The vintage Chinese box bag and the gray ladies' hat are all part of my old stash here at home, along with that gorgeous fur wrap (which is actually a fur top/blouse)!

Runway looks were reminiscent of the 1970’s classic. So Rachel Zoe-ic fashion, if I may say, don’t you think? But whether you are a Zoe fan or not, I think you’d agree with me in saying that those oversized pants are sure looking great! Women all over have used these wide-leg pants on a variety of occasions irregardless of whether they’re on trend or not, but with this 70s inspiration, I should say that these oversized pants have become one of the fashion must-haves for this Autumn/Fall 2011.

Just some tips on wearing these biggies:

- Find a cut that emphasizes the waist so that it creates a better body proportion. You can jazz it up with belts to create a more stylish / fashionable look.

- Stick with the classics….they’re more versatile and can be combined with a variety to create several looks.

- For the strong of hearts out there, well, there are the graphic and printed options available.

- To give the oversized pants some femininity, you can pair it with soft, sheer fabrics and accessorize accordingly.

- Always consider your proportions. Don’t pair the oversized pants with something that is bulky or big on top, to avoid looking like a loaded potato sack. I’ve seen some avant-garde designers having their models walk down the runways in creations with big tops and equally big bottoms and have it look like a million bucks, but those are models, honey. Trust me, it’s an exceptionally difficult look to pull off. So go find something that is a bit more fitted or slimming to even out your proportions.

So off you go now and let me see you back into the 70s!

Something Vintage

Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Valentino and Prada were just some of the big names who took inspiration from the classics to turn out fabulous pieces for their 2011 collections, and even for 2012’s!! So yes, vintage is and will still be rockin’ the fashion scene for a long time coming. And if I were you, I’d NOT throw away those trunk finds any time soon. But should you be so unfortunate to have done so, fret not coz SOMETHING VINTAGE is there to give you your much needed dose of the classics!

So this was what I was supposed to wear to the Design Fusion Vision & Trends - Philippine Fashion Week 2012 last Oct. 26 (Wednesday) but wasn't able to due to some last minute sched conflict =( so heartbroken =( But oh well, as they say, there's always a next Philippine Fashion Week!

It's another bold statement, what I planned on wearing then, considering the wild mix of animal prints on one single dress and then paired with yet another wild print clutch! But it works rather well even on print &n photo, don't you think?

The dress, by the way, is a Forever 21 find, and the wild print clutch from Charles & Keith (Singapore). The open-toe platforms (which I think looks a lot like Jeffrey Campbell's), I got for a steal at Summersault, while the drop necklace was a gift from one of my Chinese clients.

Dracula's Wife - How You Wear It | Mystyle | StyleBible.ph

Since it’s close to Halloween, some friends of mine organized a mini gothic shoot that I styled. Afterwards, I tried dressing myself up as Count Dracula’s wife ( The Countess) and posed for some pictures. So what do you think of the pic, is this a trick or a treat? =)

Taking inspiration from Count Dracula, I decided to pull together these items for his classic & elegant female version:

A plain black maxiskirt which I wore underneath a black tube pencil-skirt type dress to transform it into a fishtail gown. And for the traditional dracula upturned collar, I made use instead of a black bolero, which I unstitched, and then had its collar turned flat out and up (like a flower’s) to add volume and create some degree of elegant drama. Took a black sash and slipped on a cross pendant for some dry humor. Finished off with a pair of black pumps, some dark eyeshadow and lips, and a clean pulled-back hairstyle.

Fashion Unites

People do come together with fashion.

I attended Veejay Floresca’s show in Philippine Fashion Week 2012 alone this year. Actually, a former styling classmate of mine and I were supposed to meet up that night so that we could watch the show together. But things turned out differently than what I expected. First, I got caught up in a 3-hour traffic. Yes. I drove out of the house around 6PM for a show that’s scheduled at 9:30PM. I was expecting a little bout of traffic, maybe a 1.5hours delay, but no, I got to the SMX Convention somewhere between 8:50 – 9:00PM! Oh my poor feet! Then to make matters worse, the queue to the entrance was exagge! Goodbye good front seats, as I took the 5^th (or was it the 6^th) row. Oh well, at least I got seated still.

I chose a seat at the farthest end of the 6^th row (where the runway ends)….just the perfect place to get some decent photos as the models will take a bit more time to pose for the photographers. So ok, I’m all set….but very much alone in a room full of small groups. Luckily, this gorgeous girl approached me and asked if the seat beside mine has already been taken. I said no, and everything else after that was just memorable.

Looking back to that evening, I can’t help but really believe that there’s always something good for every bad that happens. If not for that gruesome 3-hour traffic that I (particularly my feet) had to endure, the long queue which led to distant seats, I never would’ve met the gorgeous face that is Cindy. And if not for her, I don’t think I’d ever come close to being introduced to Veejay himself!

And if not for fashion, Cindy and I probably would have never met. So yes, I think I can pretty much say that fashion indeed unites!

VEEJAY FLORESCA – PHILIPPINE FASHION WEEK 2012

Once again out of Veejay Floresca and his friend Lex Librea’s generosity I was able to attend the former’s show for Philippine Fashion Week 2012 last Oct. 25. And once again, I was blown away with Veejay’s 30-piece collection! Here below were some of my favorites amongst his entire collection (pardon the lack of clarity of these photos as I was seated on the 6th row; no thanks to traffic that had me arriving later than expected):

It’s the same bold cuts that only Veejay can deliver, and while there were some references to his collection last May 2011, it’s altogether a brand new style and presentation. I personally loved the blackish gold sets that he presented (pictures 5-7 above). And I loved how he got experimental with his cuts, prints and textures this time around (pictures 8-9 above). Really, pictures do not do justice to the gorgeousness of Veejay's collection as seen sashaying down the runway, if you know what I mean.Now even with this new kind of edge and avant-gardienism to his collection, there’s still that trademark femininity and sexuality that exudes from a VJF creation, that's for sure. And I think you would all agree with me in saying this....that this simply indicates that VJF is not only a force in the bridal & wedding industry, but also a force to be reckoned with in terms of the high fashion industry! He is truly a very talented designer with a passion for continuous improvement; and has actually kept up with the trends (if not a step ahead of others) and the demands of the ever-changing fashion environment. And that, I believe, sells!

P.S. Being extremely warm and polite, and incredibly down-to-earth and humble, is a major major factor as well. And in those, VJF truly sells!! I speak out of personal experience of course =)

I'm Your Venus, I'm Your Fire - How You Wear It | Mystyle | StyleBible.ph

So this was what I wore to Veejay Floresca's show at the Philippine Fashion Week held last October 25, 2011 at the SMX Convention Center.

Black and red. A bold statement, especially if you consider the sheerness of the top and it’s almost open back! Not exactly my usual style preference, but since it’s Philippine Fashion Week, I decided to make a bolder statement this year by going with sheer bold cuts, strong colors and yes, even sexy textures (snakeskin clutch, that’s you!) Toned down the bold & sexy references with some lovely pink heels and some monochromatic accessories.

The sheer cutout top is from Pink Manila and the red leather skirt is from Caelen & Clyde. The heels were from the CMG group and the clutch, a Charles & Keith.

This tip reminds me somehow of Lady Gaga’s spiked / horned shoulders in her Born This Way video. It’s quite a punky top with all the vibrant colors and that spiked shoulders, so I opted to pair it simply with a black mini & black patterned stockings. I accessorized simply with an owl necklace, bejeweled drop earrings & chunky bejeweled cuff. It’s a tough chic look, I must say. For whenever I am having a shitty day & it looks as if nothing’s ever going right, I just simply dress up and have a look at the mirror to see that God still makes beautiful things =)

Oh, almost forgot to mention, that top is a Caelen & Clyde that I was able to score sometime ago for a fashion styling project that I did. You might remember it HERE. The mini skirt is from Mango, the belt from a local store in China. Denier tights, as usual, from well-trusted Marks & Spencer.

And while the set may have gotten our attention, its collection failed to sustain the hype, unfortunately. That is, considering how its previous runway collections last year were quite outstanding.

There were some pretty dresses (and I emphasize girly pretty) in the collection, as above, but most of its ensembles seem to be, well, quite faint (didn’t post them any longer as there's really not much to hype). It didn’t quite register to me that it was an LV collection. At the back of my mind, it seemed like another designer’s collection…..and that’s not a good thought right there. But oh well, this may be just me, so, do feel free to disagree with me.

This is what happens when I get a bit lazy to dress up.....I just grabbed a pair of liquid leggings and this fuzzy sweater from the closet stash and claimed it as an appropriate getup for the day. Haha. A bit lousy as compared to my usual takes, so to glamorize the look, I opted to make use of silver pieces, including this chunky silver pellet necklace. Capped off my look with a pair of mocha & cream wrap heels.

The sweater and leggings were both from Forever 21, and the shoes were from Charles & Keith (Singapore). The accessories were mostly gathered from bazaars here in the metro.

Paco Robanne's Futuristic Bang Of A Spring 2012

Manish Arora for Paco Robanne's Paris Fashion Week Spring 2012 Collection. His debut for the brand paid homage to the original collection of Paco Robanne made entirely out of unconventional materials (such as metals and plastics). His collection showcased futuristic bang with strong shoulders and exaggerated hips made from shiny gloss materials that reflected the neon lights of the setting.

I just love how he put his models in those flying saucer-esque hats (courtesy I believe of Philip Treacy) that have slits for the models’ eyes! This I haven’t seen ever since fascinators started fascinating me, haha! And would you just look at that huge metallic collar resembling some sci-fi space flower for the final look? Gorgeous! And if I may add, I think Lady Gaga would say the same too! =)

Wore this outfit last week when it was stormy and raining, hence the boots and that warm getup, haha! The dual-toned top (with matching scarf) is from Oxygen, while the tights were from Marks & Spencer. Remember where I got the boots? I blogged about this Chanel-esque pair last time.....it's from B-Club and it costs super cheap for its kind! The pink cross bag, on the other hand, was another gift from a friend who's based in HK. A showcase of the country's finest brands and most talented designers for their Spring / Summer 2012 Collection is coming this October 23-30, 2011 at the SMX Convention Center! So are you ready for Philippine Fashion Week? You better be, coz last I heard, it's going to be spectacular as ever!

For free invites, you can check out your favorite brands and designers' Facebook or Twitter accounts. They usually give out free passes to their shows, so I hope to see you there! Yes, you heard me, I'll be attending a show or two AGAIN....courtesy of some gracious designers, who, by the bye, have the courtesy of replying to emails (whether or not you are a regular customer of theirs, and whether you get to enjoy a free pass to their show or not), as opposed to some retail brand(s) that I know who don't show that same level of courtesy. I'm not going to name names here, but I will definitely not recommend them to my clients. Haha.

Just a simple take on the androgenous look using corporate clothing. A simple long-sleeved polo tucked into a pair of pin-striped loose pants, some cap-toe shoes, and a fedora hat is all you need to do the trick. So what do you say? Do I look good in men's wear? Haha!

Oh, I'm wearing clothes from Zara, shoes (actually they're heeled boots - they just don't seem like it coz the trousers covered most part of it) from Nine West, a fedora hat from Virus, and suspenders from a department store.

Notice the change in setting? Well, I forgot to take a picture right after I dressed up. Realized it only when I was already about to leave our place. So to remedy the situation, I took my cam out and posed for this self-timed pic, haha!

Anyway, I'm wearing another top from Caelen & Clyde. Yes, I'm such a devotee despite the fact that I don't get any special privileges from blogging about their clothes that I usually wear (hint hint!)! Haha! The floral skirt, on the other hand, I got from a local department store during a sourcing activity that I was doing for a client of mine. The beaded pumps are from CMG and that checkered shoulder bag, a vintage Gio (I had it since I was a kid!!!). Since I felt that my bright yellow top seems somewhat lacking when paired up with the floral skirt, I decided to add in a tiered multi-colored wood necklace for accent.

Androgeny: Women's Tux

Androgeny is back. Ever since YSL came up with the Le Smoking inspiration in the 1960s, the look caught on to become the epitome of soft-meets-hard (feminine-meets-masculine).

But while the tux has been paired with skinny and tight cuts when it made a major comeback sometime in 2008, this autumn / fall 2011 saw its reinvention into a more relaxed tailoring….more 1970’s appeal.

The new tux appeal would most likely have you in the following:

- A tux with wide lapels

- Wide leg pants or high-waisted pants to pair with the tuxedo jacket, or some slouchy pants to offer a hint of tomboy cool

- Or you can skip the length and go for high-waisted shorts instead

- To give some softness to the hard tux suit, some would opt to complement it with plunging necklines, lace or sheer fabrics (or better yet, go shirtless underneath!), and matched with killer heels for a sexier edge

- You can even accessorize with bowties, neckties, or suspenders for an even more masculine take (if that is your intention)

- And should masculinity appeal more to you, then, perhaps, you can try on a pair of brogues to give off that sense of androgeny.

- You can even pair those brogues with a tux jacket but with some cropped pants!

Now before I bid tata to go find myself that perfect tux jacket, let me just remind you that there are no boundaries as to the length of the tux jacket. I’ve seen people wearing short and long and long-er versions, so it just depends on your height and figure. Make sure to check out your proportions and find the best length that’ll flatter you best! And if possible, don’t just stick with the traditional black color! Have fun, try some red or navy blue colored ones to stand out from the crowd. That is, if you do want the attention =)

Sharp And Tailored Cuts In Paris Fashion Week 2012

While there were different themes in this year’s Paris Fashion Week, allow me to share with you one that has been on the runways for more than once: STRONG, SHARP CUTS & TAILORED LOOKS.

As seen on the fashion runways of Givenchy, Lanvin & Mugler:

The Lanvin woman wears sharp cuts in snake prints, slouchy pantsuits with strong shoulders, while the Givenchy woman exudes tailored opulence. Mugler, on the other hand, brought strong cuts to the runway that screams “Lady Gaga” in more ways than one.

If you’re to ask me, I’m going with Lanvin and Givenchy on this one. The cuts are striking, but definitely not something that will terrify. A plus of course is the fact that they’re rather wearable as compared to Mugler’s devastatingly bold cuts. But of course that’s just me. So how about you?

I’m not exactly a follower of Fendi, but when I saw their collection for Milan Spring 2012 in most fashion & style blogs, I changed my mind.

These were just some of the photos that I was able to gather from fashionista.com. And all of these look so fabulous and so wearable!! I mean, there are so many looks from the runways which look ultra-cool way up there and on a model’s perfect physique, but so little that normal peeps like us would find workable. But here comes Fendi’s 2012 Spring Collection, and I’m like, wow, I think I could work those! But of course, that’s just me. Well, what do you think?

And oh, I just have to say this....I'm loving the big retro sunglasses and those big hairdos too! So clever-ish, so Einstein-ish! haha!

I'm running late, so I'm saying goodbye to my usual style orientation today. Didn't had much time to put together a better outfit, but I don't suppose it'll matter as it's just a casual meetup, so no worries on my part =)

I'm wearing a sheer long-sleeved polka-dotted top with a side cut detail from Caelen & Clyde (I swear, I should be getting special privileges already from this store as I'm always referring the shop to my friends and countless others, haha!). Paired this top with an Abercrombie shorts and a gold belt to give the latter a little accent. Opted for my trusty laced-up boots and my Zara hobo fringe bag for my leatherette fix. And just to throw off the neutral palette that I'm wearing, I hooked on this bluegreen feather earring. And note this, I'm so rocking the one-earring look, don't you think? =)

We’re seeing different themes in Milan Fashion Week for 2012. Alberta Ferretti made her collection in soft sheers, while Gucci took inspiration from the 20^th century art deco with its collection of strong lines. D&G, on the other hand, made use of silk cloth, fabric wedges, chunky accessories in loud loud colors, while Herve Leger for Max Azria went with Gladiator Chic. Versace was all about under the sea beauty, and Pucci was all about scarf print clothing and styling.

I'm wearing a sequined mini dress that I used as a top. Bought it some 2 years ago from Calliope, but it still looks gorgeous! Paired it with a frill skirt that I bought from Pink Manila in Greenhills some months back. Now to offset all that glitter and to make it appropriate for day wear, I topped a sheer blazer from Caelen & Clyde (one of my fave stores lately). Accessorized simply with a pair of red & vanilla slingback heels and a metallic clip purse.

The pics above were from Alberta Ferretti’s Spring 2012 Collection where she featured soft sheers for her collection. However, when I saw the 3 pieces above, I can’t help but flashback to this:

Forgive the picture I attached as this was the only thing I have here in my own photos. But doesn’t it look like Veejay Floresca’s Sex & Black theme in Philippine Fashion Week 2011? Sure, the fabric choice was different and the color & cut patterns suggest different appeal, but somehow, it rings a bell, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Alberta Ferretti’s work....it's very soft and feminine. But in this case, I’m sticking with VJF….I love edgy fashion after all. And of course, need I say that he showcased this type of a sheer look first? =)

Tribal Fashion

One of the fashion trends that I’ve noticed in most of New York Fashion Week for Spring 2012 is tribal prints. I know we’ve seen some of these wild prints from last year’s collection (although much of it was more Aztec than it was Tribal), so this could more or less be said as a mere spillover.

But whether it was a spillover, one thing’s for certain, the color palettes are totally different this time around, with muted tones taking over in most, as opposed to 2011’s brights. I, for one, loved Donna Karan’s creations this time….tribally fierce yet undeniably feminine and elegant. And oh, I’m totally in love with those tribal necklaces that she used for the show! They look so chic and edgy at the same time!

Color Palette For Spring 2012

Before I start blogging about some of the collections presented in Fashion Week – Spring 2012, it’s just proper to reveal the color palette that would most likely be up on the runways all across the globe.

Taking from the Pantone Color Institute, this Spring 2012 will be about renewed energy and optimism in the wonderful palette of vivid brights, soft muted tones and fun-loving pastels.

Take the cue from Pantone’s Press Release for Spring 2012’s Color Palette for Women:

Provocative Tangerine Tango, an enticing juicy orange, is a vivacious and appealing refresher to enliven anyone’s outlook this spring. Providing a jolt of energy, Solar Power radiates warmth and cheer.
Fanciful Bellflower, a distinct ornamental purple, exudes uniqueness and creativity. Scintillating and sexy, Cabaret is a sensual and intense rosy-red — an excellent choice for summer clothing and cosmetics.
Sodalite Blue, a classic maritime hue, brings order and calmness to mind. Like an anchor to a ship, this dependable shade works with every color in the palette. Cockatoo, a tactile blue-green, is sure to make your spirits soar. This unusual hue adds a whimsical touch to the palette and will surely make a statement this spring. I have to say it’s a very daring and striking color to wear. And I believe not everyone can wear reds with style and grace. Myself included. But for those of you who can and are comfortable with it or with any shade that has the reddish shade to it, then this season is your time to shine! Take inspiration from some of the above pictures and don the color as much as you can carry.

Otherwise, for us with lesser courage, we can simply try and incorporate the color red into our apparel…..one little piece at a time. That is, until we get the hang of it (that is, if we ever get the hang of it, haha!). I, for one, would most likely end up with either a belt, a pair of shoes or a small tote that’s in the family of the color red. Jewelry with red tones are always welcome, of course, as they bring some pop of color to any ensemble.

So what do you say? Let’s all stay on red alert this season, alright?

September Is Fashion Week!

September is the month we all fashionistas are waiting for. Coz it heralds in the Spring 2012 Collections from the world’s leading fashion institutions!

Leading the fashion week pack is New York – Mercedes Benz Fashion Week which started its showcase last September 7 up until the 15th. London Fashion Week follows next on the 16^th through 20^th while Milan – Women’s Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Week will be on the 21^st to the 27^th.

So are you ready? You better be, coz there’s no reason to miss any of it as it will be live streamed! A lot of collections will even be unveiled online through Facebook Pages, as well as video platforms such as Youtube and Livestream! So do check your fashion labels out, and let’s all have another wonderful fashion year ahead!

The Boyfriend Jacket

Boyfriend shirts are a thing of the past these days, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do away with your boyfriends, as they still come in handy in terms of this year’s fall fashion. Spotted on the runways this time around are Boyfriend Jackets!

A bit on the slouchy side, the boyfriend jacket is a little longer than the classic blazer. And while the preppier cut blazers are still in fashion town, designers have taken to a more masculine, edgier cuts and appeal for Fall 2011.

One way of using the boyfriend jacket is to pair it with a t-shirt and a pair of shorts or with a good pair of skinnies. It instantly jazzes up a very casual look. Or, it can also be worn over short dresses or minis to actually give the feminine look some degree of roughness. You can likewise match it with loose fitting slacks for an androgenous feel, or pair it with high-waisted trousers for that high-fashion look =)

Both Zara and Mango have good selections of these boyfriend jackets, mostly priced a little over P4k. Forever 21 also have a couple of these in stores moderately priced between P1k – P2k. Alexane in SM Ladies’ Section also have some pretty good buys at a little over P1k. Now, if you’re tight on the budget, you can always scour through the flea markets here all over the metro. Greenhills Shopping Center offers a variety with prices beginning at P550. But if you feel that’s still a lot to shell out, then better head out to Tutuban Center or Baclaran Terminal Mall for some blazer finds that’ll surely be within the P500, or even some P300 mark.

Now that you’ve seen some runway inspirations, perhaps you might be asking….Just how do I wear these shimmery pieces? Here’s some of my thoughts on how:

Metallic and sequinned embellished clothing are pretty much associated with evening / party wear, but given you wanna rock it in daytime (as is the trend), remember to wear only one of this piece (like a sequinned cami, or a metallic jacket) and then pair it with anything that’s neutral, like a pair of denims, slacks or tights. Skirts, even! Now, if it can be avoided, save those fully-metallic or embellished dresses for the evening affair, but if not, well, you can always throw in a basic cardi or blazer to offset all that shine.

The key, I believe, is not to over-accessorize and over-do it as metallic and sequinned pieces already has the bling factor. I’m sure you don’t wanna end up looking like a disco ball, so matte accessories would look complement well with all that glitter, as with a neutral shade of pumps or heels. Again, save the shiny clutches for the eve.

Be sure to pick the right metallic or sequin shade/color that’ll work best with your skin tone. I find that those with golden hues work best for most Filipinas (as most have warm undertones), and some mestizas (like me!) as well. I mean, even if I am on the fair side, my undertones lean more towards yellow than it is to pinkish/bluish.

With that, let’s have a shiny shimmering splendid -ber months ahead!
